At BIMcrunch we asked some of the industry experts who are speaking at BIM Show Live 2017 to give us an insight into what they will be sharing in their seminars and to tell us a little bit more about what is shaping the world of BIM in the year ahead. Nigel Davies from Evolve Consultancy will be speaking on Day 2 in the Data Stream, and will be looking closely at the “I” in BIM and why this is important in the understanding of the day-to-day workings of digital construction. “BIM is 3D modelling”. “BIM isn’t 3D modelling. “BIM is data.” “Data is useless, information is important.” “You can’t do BIM without an EIR.” “You can’t have an EIR without an AIR.” “What’s an AIR?” … “What do you mean by BIM again?” Do you ever wonder how we manage to get anything done in the UK? All we seem to hear and read about at the moment is how wrong everyone else has got it, and how what you thought you were doing isn’t in fact what everyone else understands BIM to be. Sometimes what we need to do is ..

BIM Show Live looks at the state of the nation, where we are now, what we have achieved in the past five years and what indeed is our aim for the future as our industry continues to digitise. Opening the Strategy stream on Day 1 are Sarah Rock and Ashleigh Cole of Herbert Smith Freehills – wonder women of our industry. Taking to the stage with their golden lasso of truth and indestructible bracelets, Sarah and Ashleigh will guide us through what is required legally to implement Level 2 BIM. ..

Credit: John McCall Architects Building Information Modelling is notorious for helping achieve sustainability not only on-site, but also during the management of a project once developed. A home in The Wirral, UK objectifies that plus point in bucket loads. Liverpool-based architecture practice John McCall Architects created a home for one of the company’s Directors Colin Usher. The dwelling has four bedrooms and cost £240,000. The Passivhaus design is obviously eco-friendly, utilising the likes of solar panels and a air-to-water air source heat pump (ASHP). The best part about the home? It costs just £15 per year to run. We haven’t misplaced a 0. BIM was utilised to ensure that Mr Usher had the best tool in-front of him to assist with the build and measure the best ways to proceed. Orientation, insulation, air tightness and thermal mass were all taken into account, with the model used to ensure those factors were at the forefront of each decision made throughout the lifecycle of t..
